Travel, Accommodation & Covid Measures

The conference takes place as an in-person event at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. The conference venue is located on the main campus right in the heart of the city of Halle (Saale). A campus map can be found here.

Halle (Saale) main station (Hauptbahnhof) can be easily reached from both Berlin airports (journey time: approximately 1.45 hours). The smaller airport Leipzig/Halle is only 10 minutes away.

Our conference venue, the building Melanchthonianum, is on the main campus (Universitätsplatz) and within walking distance from both Hotel Dormero (10 min) and Halle (Saale) main station (20 min). Alternatively, you can take local tram No. 7 (direction: Kröllwitz) from main station to the stop Neues Theater (five stops overall). From the stop Neues Theater, please turn right into Schulstraße, which leads directly to Universitätsplatz.

Further information on local transport, cafés and restaurants can be found here:

To look up train connections, please consult the website of the Deutsche Bahn.

For researching flight connections, we recommend the website Skyscanner.

For accommodation, several options are available:

Hotel rooms can be booked at a special rate (€75 per night for a single room including breakfast) at our main conference hotel, Hotel Dormero. If you wish to book a room at this hotel, please make sure to provide the code CBUND when making the reservation. Please make sure to reserve swiftly, as rooms may book up quickly. Hotel Dormero is located in the city centre of Halle, within easy walking distance of the main station and the conference venue at Universitätsplatz.

In addition to this pre-arranged option, further accommodation can be individually researched via commercial tourism websites such as https://www.hotels.com/de1640112/hotels-halle-an-der-saale-deutschland/?pos=HCOM_EMEA&locale=en_IE and (only in German) via the main Tourist Information Office of Halle (Saale) at https://www.halle-tourismus.de/tourismus/uebernachtungen/.

Covid Measures

Numbers of Covid cases in Germany have been falling for months and have been low over the summer time in particular. Therefore, measures have been relaxed, but please remember that medical masks (preferably FFP2 ones) are still compulsory on public transport (trains, trams, and buses).

We have made sure to book a venue for our conference that provides ample space and will allow all participants to remain at a physical distance, if preferred. Our speakers will be positioned at a reasonable distance from the audience, and will of course also be able to keep their masks on should they wish to do so.

If preferred, you are welcome to wear masks in the lecture hall and seminar rooms, and in the hall and venues of our social programme (Roter Ochse Memorial and Literaturhaus Halle).

We have arranged for coffee breaks as well as receptions to take place at least partly outdoors (with shelter in case of bad weather). The Conference Dinner will be held in a restaurant booked exclusively for the conference, and includes access to outdoor space as well.

If you require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our conference team at secworld@anglistik.uni-halle.de. We look forward to welcoming you in Halle!
